Communal Finances

I came across an inspiring story about a monastery with a very successful business. It demonstrates that a community can take care of itself without compromising its simple, prayerful way of life.

John, this is an intriguing post. I'm involved with a series of developments around Christian Practices at the moment, including the development of a Network for Ecclesial Entrepreneurs. A lot of the inspiration for that inititive is based on monastic and Anabaptist models. In the UK the controversial monastic product is 'Buckfast' (from Buckfast Abbey), which accounts for 0.5% of all Scottish alcholic beverage sales. The Bruderhof in Robertsbridge is a community in the Hutterian tradition. They have a thriving business selling quality physiotherapy and play equipment.
